DFI Application Process

PRE-APPLICATION QUESTIONNAIRE

The DFI Application begins with a pre-application questionnaire designed to assist potential candidates in determining whether the DFI is right for them, and whether they are right for the DFI. Candidates' answers to the pre-application questionnaire are not recorded and have no bearing upon one's candidacy.

WRITTEN APPLICATION

The goal of the written application is to provide the DFI Selection Committee with as complete a composite as possible of each candidate.  The more one reveals of oneself, the more the Selection Committee can accurately assess one's candidacy.

REFERENCES

Candidates are asked to provide the names and email addresses of up to three individuals from whom they wish to receive references.  Those designated as references will receive an invitation, via email, to login to a secure site where they will have the opportunity to provide a letter of recommendation.

NOTE: Letters of recommendation are due with the completed application on January 16, 2009.  Candidates must provide names and email addresses of references well in advance of the application deadline so that letter-writers will have ample time to submit their letters.  The application deadline is not flexible.

INTERVIEWS

By April 1, 2009, all candidates will receive notification of whether they have advanced to the next stage of the DFI Application process, the in-person interview.  Up to 30 candidates will be invited to interview as DFI Finalists.

Upon notification, Finalists will be invited to choose dates/times for their interviews.  The DFI will make every effort to accomodates candidates' schedules, though does not guarantee any particular date or time slot.

All interviews will take place in Providence, RI from April 19-23, 2009.  Candidates who cannot be in Providence for 24 hours during those dates should not apply.

Hotel accommodations and up to $1300 will be made available to Finalists for their travel to Providence.  All travel arrangements must be made by the DFI's travel agency, the contact information for which will be shared with Finalists.

Finalists should expect to be in Providence for a full day, including the previous evening.  The interview experience will include both group activities and individual interviews.  Specific information will be shared with Finalists upon confirmation of their interviews.

ALTERNATES

Finalists will be contacted by May 1 to be informed of their status.  Up to 12 candidates will be chosen as Dorot Fellows.  The Selection Committee may also choose Alternates.  In the event that a candidate rejects the invitation to be a Dorot Fellow, the Selection Committee will extend an invitation to an Alternate.  There are some years when there are no Fellowships made available to Alternates and others when there are multiple Fellowships available to Alternates.
