Before You Apply Before investing your time and effort in applying, we ask that you please do two things: 1. thoroughly review the Foundation's grantmaking areas to determine if your request is likely to fall within the Foundation’s guidelines; and 2. read the article Zeroing in on Impact from the Fall, 2004 issue of Stanford Social Innovation Review. The article describes two concepts, Intended Impact and Theory of Change, that you’ll need to understand before applying. How to Apply Once you’ve reviewed the grantmaking areas and understand Intended Impact and Theory of Change, you’re ready to apply. The Foundation uses a two-stage process for grant applications. Stage One: Submit a Letter of Inquiry. A Letter of Inquiry should be 2-3 pages long, not counting financial information, and should address the following topics. Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis. Please send Letters of Inquiry by regular mail. A successful Stage One submission leads to… Stage Two: Full Proposals are requested as appropriate. A Full Proposal is generally 5-10 pages long, not counting financial information. It expands on the Letter of Inquiry and should address the following topics. Completed proposals fully addressing all of the listed topics are due by the date listed below. When to Apply Letters of Inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis. Please send Letters of Inquiry by regular mail. The Board meets twice a year for grantmaking - generally Apr./May and Oct./Nov. The next Board meeting is scheduled for June 3, 2008. Completed proposals are due by April 11, 2008. ***Please allow time to submit a Letter of Inquiry, receive a response and submit a full proposal by the April 11, 2008 deadline.
